A Blue Devil Film Review
A Blue Devil Film ReviewCult movies that often feature a certain type of character that is discussed as part of a secret society. Examples would be The Crow, The Grudge, The Exorcist, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and many others. Many people don't seem to realize just how crazy the cult scene was back in the day.One of the biggest cult movies that is featured in my article is The Blue Devil. A film that tells the story of 'The Blue Devil', the infamous nightclub singer in Los Angeles that became a cult hero for many. This film is not as innocent as some of the other cult films on my paper topic. There are parts that use nudity, sexual undertones, and sexual violence. However, I feel that it is an important movie to feature because it lets us into the real world of the 'Blue Devil'.One of the things that is overlooked by most films on this topic is the dedication, acceptance, and 'getting by' of the subjects depicted in the film. A typical cult film is depicted as having an understanding of life and death. With A Blue Devil you get all three of these. It's early career begins with the childhood of the singer, Evelyn Wood. She has no parents and, being a child, she lives with her family. Through her relationships with these family members she is forced to deal with her past while living a chaotic life, all while struggling with sex. This film is known for its portrayal of substance abuse and the depths of what drug addiction can do to a person. Throughout the film we watch Evelyn's cocaine use build up and fall to a sudden end. She relapses into prostitution, a job that seems more dangerous than the high she receives from her first cocaine trip.I thought this film was an interesting portrayal of Evelyn's struggle with her past while coming to terms with her future. She found herself in the end dealing with life as a celebrity, after years of being a junkie. You can see in her eyes how hard she had to fight to get out of this life. This film deserves an entry into the C ult Movies Paper Topic. I thought it was one of the best films on my list. It offers some great insights into how different people deal with their past and even at times, their future.
